Sensory Kits
MY POSITION
Accessibility Coordinator
WHERE
I developed and implemented a sensory kit program within the museum. The stimulation of installation art varies and, at the time of my tenure, there were exhibits with bright lights and loud noises that were jarring and uncomfortable for individuals. Identifying a need to make the museum experience accessible to individuals on the Autism spectrum, I developed a sensory kit with noise cancelling headphones, fidget toys, and sunglasses. The marketing team and I discussed a timeline for promotion on social media and within our museum. Then, the Director of Operations and Visitor Experiences and I collaborated on a check-out system for the kits and gathered visitor survey data so that the kits could continue to evolve and support visitors’ needs. This project was a great collaboration with internal partners and our visitors who provided feedback.
